Tsunami and Typhoon Missed Us!

Big news! We had a tsunami warning AND a typhoon warning, and we were spared! Whew! So we can go on taking beautiful pictures! One of the Marshall Islands was basically wiped out, I think, after a 8.0 earthquake caused a tsunami. I think there are 20 dead and many missing, but by the same token, it's nothing like the Indonesian tsunami of a few years ago. The night of the supposed typhoon's arrival, we went to a friend of Pilar's Mexican Restaurant, and ate good food in the hot, dark dining area, as the power went out for a bit!

Anyhow, we've been enjoying ourselves and have begun visiting some WWII sites and other nice tourist sites in Guam. I'll probably make several posts.

First of all, I want to tell you of the "boonie dogs". We would call them "wild dogs" stateside, but here, they are called "boonie dogs". I guess as in "boondock dogs". They are wild, and scavenge for food. Here are a few photos of them. From what I gather, since this is a small island there just aren't resources for humane organizations to handle the issue. Anyhow, here are some pictures of the "local pack" by Herta's house. The good news is that supposedly there is no rabies on the island.

And here is a Guam school bus yard, directly across from Herta's house, where we are staying.

And here is also a picture of some of the neighborhood wild chickens. They are everywhere. There is a constant cacophany of roosters crowing both day and night, but there is a certain charm in that. Because nobody goes hungry on Guam, the chickens just grow and multiply, although I gather that on occasion people will gather the eggs and trap and eat a wild chicken!
I'll post more! Take a look!
